SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS

We are seeking Substitute Teachers to join our amazing early learning program located in the beautiful and historic Pike Place Market. The Substitute Teacher assists co-teachers with curriculum development /implementation, classroom management, and communications with families. 

Substitute Teachers  are an integral part of the success of children, families and co-teachers at PMCCP. They bring with them new ideas, a great deal of energy, and tremendous support to the children, families and classroom teachers. Being a Substitute Teacher is an amazing learning opportunity for educators who are interested in working with children, learning the scope and sequence of curriculum, and practicing their teaching skills in order to one day co-lead a classroom.

Founded in 1982, PMCCP is dedicated to ensuring that all families have access to high-quality care. To do so, we provide tuition assistance to 60% of enrolled families, and welcome children of families participating in child care subsidy programs.

Pike Market Child Care and Preschool (PMCCP) is searching for on-call substitute teachers to provide support to infant, toddler and preschool classrooms.

 

Substitute Teachers will:

  • assist teachers with implementation of the daily program

  • have flexibility to provide support to various shifts (we are open 7:30am to 6pm)

  • assist teachers in facilitating child-centered, Reggio-inspired curriculum (which encourages long stretches of open play without interruption)

  • develop skills to implement a culturally relevant, anti-bias approach

  • supervise classroom; stay alert to developing situations and needs of the children

  • communicate pro-actively with teachers and administrators

  • assist with meals, clean-up and restoring learning environments

  • coach children to to solve problems on their own (use positive guidance methods)

  • guide social interactions and exploration, rather than simply entertaining

  • create respectful relationships with all teachers and staff

  • collaborate with various teaching teams

  • maintain adaptability to work in different settings

  • engage in physical play and activity

  • take direction from classroom staff; be proactive in asking questions

  • have a sense of humor and put joy into their work

 

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

  • 2+ years’ experience working with young children ages 0-5.

  • strength in creating partnerships with children, families, and staff

  • a disposition toward children that is respectful and reflective

  • familiarity with Reggio-Inspired practice, emergent curriculum and Anti-Bias education

  • an eagerness for on-going professional development

  • experience working with groups and/or families from diverse cultural, economic, and ethnic backgrounds

SALARY

  • This is a part time, as needed position with sick leave. 

  • $15-$16/hr. depending on relevant experience and education.

PROGRAM COORDINATOR

We are seeking a Program Coordinator to join our amazing early learning community located in the beautiful and historic Pike Place Market.  The Program Coordinator is a key member of our leadership team that works together to support the mission, vision, and values of Pike Market Child Care and Preschool (PMCCP). We are seeking an individual who is committed to sustaining a high-quality child care program that values partnerships between families and staff. We are interested in candidates who have invested in social justice, equity, and have experience and skills in working with diverse children, families and staff.

FOUNDATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and manages the day-to-day operations of a busy, early learning community

  • Supervise full time teaching staff and facilitates staffing, in order to maintain our low ratios

  • Recruit, hire, and maintain a dedicated pool of talented part-time support staff

  • Organize the enrollment process for new families, as well as the waiting pool

  • Provide resources and helps families navigate social and health services, including navigating access to State and City subsidies

  • Lead the partnership with regulatory agencies such as DCYF, CACFP, King County Public Health, City of Seattle, Early Achievers and other community constituents

  • Work in partnership with leadership team to promote family engagement

  • Communicates key information with all major constituents through various communication methods (in person, email, social media, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree that includes 12 credits in Early Childhood Education or related field OR Associates Degree in Early Childhood or related field with a plan of study leading to a bachelor’s degree

  • 3-years full-time experience working in an early learning program (family or center care) or related field; AND at least 1-year of experience supervising staff in a child care program or a related field of work

  • Strong multi-tasking and organizing skills

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds

  • Has strong cross-cultural communication skills

  • Excellent written skills

  • Proficient computer skills (data management, Google suite, and Microsoft)

 

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • This is a full time, full year salaried position with paid vacation and sick leave. 

  • Work Schedule is M-F, 9:30 to 6pm including some early morning/evenings/weekends

  • $51,000 - $55,000 Depending on relevant experience and education.
