Family Engagement COORDINATOR

We are seeking a Family Engagement Coordinator to join our amazing early learning community located in the beautiful and historic Pike Place Market.  The Family Engagement Coordinator is a key member of our leadership team that works together to support the mission, vision, and values of Pike Market Child Care and Preschool (PMCCP). We are seeking an individual who is committed to sustaining a high-quality child care program that values partnerships between families and staff. We are interested in candidates who have invested in social justice, equity, and have experience and skills in working with diverse children, families and staff.

Pike Market Child Care and Preschool (PMCCP) provides high-quality child care and preschool education to children age 3 months to 5 years. Founded in 1982, PMCCP is dedicated to ensuring that all families have access to a high-quality care. To do so, we provide tuition assistance to 60% of enrolled families and welcome children of families participating in child care subsidy programs.

General Summary: 

Plans, organizes, and implements family engagement services. Recruits and enrolls children. Provides resources and referrals for families in need. Acts as a community liaison for the agency.

FOUNDATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties: 

Family Engagement 

  • Provides avenues for families to provide feedback and be involved in the program in a variety of ways 

  • Develops opportunities for family networking and education based on current needs and interests 

  • Maintains consistent communication about the program to the family community: newsletters, emails, notices, etc. 

  • Works in collaboration with teachers and Education Coordinator to provide Kindergarten Transition activities 

  • Facilitates problem-solving activities when concerns arise amongst or within the family community Manages family engagement opportunities 

  • Maintains professional boundaries in relationships with all enrolled families; refraining from fraternizing to ensure that relationships do not impair effectiveness in providing services. 

 

Family Support Services 

  • Provides support and encouragement to families and provides resources and referrals 

  • Develops relationships with community organizations that provide support to families; has resources available to share 

  • Oversees the Food Access and Assistance programs for families in need 

  • Partners with leadership team in organizing the annual Holiday Gift Drive for families and staff in need. 

  • Provides resources and helps families navigate social and health services, including navigating access to State and City subsidies 

  • Tracks and reports student attendance for subsidy reimbursements 

  • Make effort to communicate effectively with all families in a language that they understand; utilizing community resources  

  • Supports teachers in building home-to-school connections, including support for bi-annual parent/teacher conferences 

 

Recruitment and Enrollment 

  • Establish and model welcoming and supportive reciprocal relationships with all families, and program participants 

  • Organizes equitable recruitment and enrollment process and manages the waiting pool 

  • Welcomes all family members, organizes orientation for new families; provides information and supports to families who are transitioning into school 

  • Makes efforts to learn about each family – it’s structure, culture, language, customs, and beliefs to ensure a culturally relevant environment 

  • Provides ongoing support to families who are waiting to enroll, looking for information on starting school 

 

Health and Safety 

  • Works with Teachers and Nutrition Coordinator to create mealtime plans for children with food allergies and intolerances 

  • Acts as a resource to teachers and families in recognizing children with challenging behaviors or developmental delays and provides resources and referrals 

  • Partners with teaching teams to provide information to families regarding their child’s health and safety 

  • Works with Teachers and Families to develop health plans for children that have health needs or special needs (rights) 

  • Provides up-to-date information to teachers and staff regarding families 

 

Administrative Duties 

  • Provides daily phone reception and front office support to staff and families (shared with leadership staff) 

  • Steps into classrooms and kitchen, as needed, for supports to maintain low ratios 

  • Schedules tours for prospective families 

  • Maintains and updates student and family demographic spreadsheets 

  • Maintains student and family demographic data 

  • Tracks and reports student attendance for subsidy reimbursements 

  • Conducts and shares information with leadership team from regular attendance and vaccine audits in ProCare to ensure accurate records 

  • Works in partnership with the leadership team to ensure consistency of approach and communication 

  • Leads the strategic direction of family engagement offerings in coordination with the leadership team; including logistics, budget, broadcasting, follow up, etc. 

  • Attends and supports school events, including fundraising events – including limited evening and weekends events 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree that includes 12 credits in Early Childhood Education or related field OR Associates Degree in Early Childhood or related field with a plan of study leading to a bachelor’s degree

  • 3-years full-time experience working in an early learning program (family or center care), social work or related field

  • Strong multi-tasking and organizing skills

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds

  • Has strong cross-cultural communication skills

  • Strong written skills

  • Proficient computer skills (data management, Google suite, and Microsoft)

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • This is a full time, full year salaried position with paid vacation and sick leave. 

  • Work Schedule is M-F, 9:30 to 6pm including some early morning/evenings/weekends

  • $45,000 - $53,000 Depending on relevant experience and education.
