Tuition Assistance

Families who work hard and earn low wages typically have very limited access to quality child care programs in downtown Seattle. Many do not accept child care subsidies from the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) or the City of Seattle, thereby further limiting options for families. Pike Market Child Care and Preschool designates at least half of its slots to families whose incomes are at or below the poverty level. PMCCP not only accepts subsidies, but has also established a tuition assistance program with a sliding-scale fee structure based on income and family size. In 2012-13, PMCCP provided $240,000 in tuition assistance to 70% of families enrolled in the program. As families' incomes increase, the Preschools's sliding fee scale allows parents time to gradually increase tuition without immediately being overwhelmed with a huge increase.

Workplace Giving

One of the easiest ways to give is through workplace giving. Many local companies particpate in a workplace giving program with PMCCP. If you have questions about this program or would like to partner with PMCCP for workplace giving, please e-mail Lesa at Lesa@pikemarketkids.org.

Ellen Greene Crisis Fund

Established in 2012, the Ellen Greene Crisis Fund honors Ellen’s tireless efforts on behalf of children and families in the Market.  Ellen was the Executive Director of the Preschool from 2005-2012. The purpose of this Fund is to provide short-term tuition assistance (or additional assistance) for families in our program who are experiencing crisis or unexpected hardship.  This crisis might be due to an event like job loss, prolonged illness, flood, or fire, resulting in a significant impact on income or expenses.  The Fund may also be used to assist families while they are on the waiting list for a child care subsidy from the state or the City of Seattle.
